365 Days of Wine
Yes, Virginia, there is a Claret.
February 07, 2010
My good bud Steve, the guru of under $10 wines at HEB Hancock recently came back from a trip to visit family in Virginia. He brought me back a bottle of wine, Veritas Claret, 2008, Monticello Virginia. I know nothing, I must admit, about the wine industry in Virginia. On purpose, I decided not to research it before I opened the bottle, just to be utterly fair.
Light bright nose, red fruits, slight green whiff. The palate is also rather light. The wine is soft, not hugely complex. A mineral, acid mid palate, with a green pepper copper finish. It isn't unpleasant. it is easy to drink, but lacks weight to stand up to any heavy food.
I don't know the price, so can't assess the value for the buck. It isn't a bad effort, Virginia makes wine. Decent wine. Jefferson should be proud.
Cheers,
