Rob Moshein - The Austin Wine Guy

Wow, you CAN find decently good wine for $8!

March 02, 2010

Buzzing through Central Market, just burgers for dinner. Asked Seth for an easy cheap red. His first instinct was Bayun Carmemere, 2008, Rapel Valley Chile, for $8. Well, heck at the price it's always worth a try.

A New World fleshy nose, bright red fruits, warm meat and a hint of canned black olives. That explains why the cashier told me her friends said it tasted like Olive Pizza! The palate was similar to the nose, fleshy dense bright fresh red fruits, warm meatiness and solid acids, with a touch of the olives again. Was really fine with the burgers. This is indeed what I love to call "Tuesday Night Burger Wine". Cheap, good and easy. Which is only fitting, since it WAS Tuesday, and we had BURGERS! Will work equally well on Wednesdays with Pizza, Thursdays with Spaghetti and Meatballs, or Mondays with meatloaf!

$8 and good. Cool!

Drink this Wine!

Cheers,
