Rob Moshein - The Austin Wine Guy

This wine is all over the place, very popular, very cheap, and

A bottle of "Menage a Trois" 2008 from Folie a Deux somehow found its way into my house. I think a guest brought to our open house party last week. I know I wasn't responsible for it getting in the door.  But, hey, a wine a day is the deal. So I opened it.

A sickly sweet raisiny nose, led to a lightweight, yet dense, raisiny sweet palate, with obvious Residual sugar, almost no acids and little backbone. OK, it is not "offensive" per se, but this is red wine with "training wheels" for people who don't really like red wine. Zero charcter, it could have been any sort of generic red, showing NO characteristics of the Zinfandel, Cabernet and Merlot the label says is in the bottle. I had hoped for some spice from the zin, but nada. Ick.

No wonder every big box grocery store has it on the shelf. It has no relationship to the wine I remember from some 8 or 9 years ago that had something going on in the bottle.  This stuff is the "Big Mac" equivalent of the wine world. At least it encourages new wine drinkers.

Not my "Austin Wine Guy" thing.  Most of the bottle remains and if no company stops by (who doesn't care about wine that is) the rest will go into the red wine vinegar jar.

Cheers
