Linguine and Clams, something cheap to pair

January 21, 2010

Asked a bud for his suggestion for Lingine with Clams. Suggested the Zolo Viognier, 2008 Mendoza Argentina. $11 bucks so what the heck?

Pound and a half of little necks, three cloves garlic, 1/4 cup minced onion and three tbls chopped parsley, juice of one lemon and 1/4 cup dry white wine, salt/ pepper. That was dinner with the linguine.  The wine: Warmish nose, stewed fruit. Something toffee like?  The palate was thick, not heavy, but I'll be honest, if this had been brown bagged, I would NEVER have though viognier!

Solid acids, a warm, stewed fruit thing, but touches of lime and long bright finish. Not bad. Worth the price of admission. I'd be upset if it had been more, but this price is fair.

Fair enough for a Thursday evening. Paired fine with the clams.

Be well.

Cheers,
