365 Days of Wine
Another good $12 Italian for everyday
February 17, 2010
Another long day. Decided on Grilled Italian Snausages with grilled red, green peppers, onions and garlic finished with my home made red wine vinegar, on rolls popped under the broiler with Mozzarella and Reggiono briefly.
This $12 bottle Monteroni di Lecce Salice Salentino, 2006 was a high recommendation from Steve, my good bud and the GURU of inexpensive wine at the HEB Hancock Center.
Crappy label, but hey, I'm buying wine and not the package. A very warm tarry, asphalt nose, in a good way, with warm red fruits. A touch of green leaf and pepper too. Mid weight palate of more smoky warm red fruits, black pepper, tar and vanilla. Not a bad deal for $12. I'd love it more at 9.99, but heck it is what it is.
It worked great with the snausages and peppers.
Drink this wine!
