Wow, snowing in Austin. Something to pair with Onion Soup Gratinee

February 23, 2010

I love finding a mis priced wine at the store. Was shopping to make French Onion Soup Gratinee au Gruyere. Talking with Seth at Central Market and we found this gem, Dom. Fond Croze, Cuvee Vincent de Catari, Cotes du Rhone Villages 2005, a mis ship with a upc sticker stuck on to scan like the regular item on the shelf. $15 for a 2005 reserve cuvee CdR! Cool.

Tight nose, dark red berry fruit, slight smoke, vanilla, touch of fresh earth. Nice red fruit palate, more clean smoke, a hint of meatiness. Clean acids. Not heavy, not dense, but nice complex flavors. Pleasant, well made. It paired well with the soup. I like wines that are elegant, not chewy, rich not heavy. This is clearly one of them. Worth every penny of the $15,

Drink this Wine!

Cheers,
